Terms of service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account and using Provenance, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Provenance is operated by Green Tree Apps LLC, a Colorado limited liability company.

2. What Provenance Is

Provenance is a personal estate asset registry that allows you to catalog valuable items, document their histories, store estate planning documents, and share your registry with designated beneficiaries. Provenance is a personal organizational tool. It is not a legal service, financial advisor, appraiser, or estate planning attorney. Nothing in the app constitutes legal, financial, or tax advice.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Provenance supports sign-in via Google and email/password. You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You may not share your account or use another person's account without permission. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

4. Your Content

You retain full ownership of everything you upload: photos, documents, notes, and asset descriptions. By uploading content, you grant Provenance a limited license to store, display, and process that content solely to operate the service for you. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it for any purpose beyond delivering the app to you. We do not use your content to train AI models.

5. AI Features

Provenance uses the Anthropic Claude API to power photo identification, document scanning, and writing assistance. When you use these features, the relevant photo or text is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. This processing is governed by Anthropic's terms and privacy policy. AI-generated descriptions and value estimates are estimates only. They are not professional appraisals and should not be relied upon for insurance, legal, or financial purposes.

6. Beneficiary Sharing

You may invite beneficiaries to view your registry. You are responsible for ensuring you have appropriate consent before sharing another person's contact information with Provenance. Beneficiaries you invite receive read-only access to the portions of your registry you choose to share, and may express interest in items. You may revoke access at any time, and revocation takes effect immediately. Pending invitations expire after 30 days.

7. Estate Planning Documents

The Document Center allows you to store copies of estate planning documents for personal reference. Provenance is a storage and organizational tool only. We are not responsible for the legal validity, accuracy, enforceability, or completeness of any documents you store. Storing a document in Provenance does not execute it, file it, or give it legal effect. Always work with a licensed attorney for estate planning matters.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Provenance to store illegal content, to impersonate others, to attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data, to send unsolicited communications through the invitation system, or to use the service in any way that violates applicable law.

9. Subscriptions and Payments

Provenance offers a free plan and paid plans (Premium and Family). Current pricing and plan features are shown on our website and in the app. Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a monthly or annual basis and renew automatically until cancelled.

You may cancel at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you retain access to paid features until then. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial billing periods. If you are dissatisfied within 7 days of your first charge, contact us and we will issue a full refund.

If a payment fails, we will attempt to collect for a limited period before downgrading your account to the free plan. Your data is retained when you downgrade, but you will not be able to add new items beyond free plan limits.

We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

10. Data and Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from the Family page in the app. Deletion permanently removes your registry, photos, documents, stories, the family memories you wrote, and your sign-in record, and cannot be undone. It also removes the memories other people added to your items. A limited set of records is kept afterward, for the reasons and periods set out in section 8 of our Privacy Policy.

11. Service Availability and Disclaimers

Provenance is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or that the service will meet your requirements. We are not liable for any loss of data. You should maintain your own copies of important documents and not rely on Provenance as your only record.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Green Tree Apps LLC's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or loss of data.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice in the app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Denver County, Colorado.
